Payne undergoes surgery

Rookie S Kevin Payne had successful surgery to repair his broken right arm.

The fifth-round pick from Louisiana-Monroe was injured in a spot start last Sunday at Detroit and is expected to fully recover well in advance of the offseason program.

Payne emerged as a quick learner who was expected to be a major contributor on special teams.

He broke the same arm in 2004 at school, and the surgery is expected to make it stronger than ever.

Payne is the seventh player to be placed on season-ending injured reserve.
