It looks like ex-Bear Tank Johnson is up to his good behavior shtick again. According to the Dallas Morning News, Johnson is attending counseling sessions at the Dallas Cowboys’ facility with the hope of being able to persuade commissioner Roger Goodell to allow him to return after just a six-game suspension which would make Johnson eligible to play in two weeks.
Johnson was originally set to get just a six-game suspension and return to the Bears this month before he was pulled over in Gilbert, Ariz., at 3:30 a.m. and charged with driving under the influence. Johnson’s blood-alcohol test was just a fraction under the legal limit, but before those results came available the Bears had said enough is enough and cut him.
“He’s working to try and do the kind of work and make the kind of impression that would influence the commissioner and let him get back early,” owner and general manager Jerry Jones told the Dallas Morning News.
The defensive tackle signed a two-year deal with the Cowboys that will pay him the pro-rated portion of $510,000 this year. With bonuses, the DMN reports he could earn $1.6 million next season.
