Emanuel Announces FY 2009 WRDA Requests
WASHINGTON, DC Continuing his personal effort to bring more transparency and accountability to the earmark process, U.S. Representative Rahm Emanuel (D-IL) today released a list of his requests for Fiscal Year 2009 in the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA) of 2008.
In the spirit of this effort to make the process more transparent, I am happy to make these requests public, said Emanuel.
In this years WRDA bill, Emanuel requested the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure consider investing $1,300,000 in Chicagos 5th Congressional District. Specifically, Emanuel requested funding for investments in the Village of Franklin Parks wastewater infrastructure. This project will provide improvements to and storm sewer construction on Westbrook Drive in Franklin Park, Illinois.
Taxpayers deserve to know where their dollars are being spent, said Emanuel.
Additionally, Emanuel asked the Committee to insert language in the WRDA bill that would deauthorize a federal navigation area of the Chicago Harbor to allow construction of marina facilities and improve commercial and recreational access. This area has fallen into disrepair, and the deauthorization language will allow the Chicago Park District to rehabilitate the location to improve public access and commercial and recreational opportunities. Emanuel and Rep. Dan Lipinski (D-IL) jointly requested the language.
