Taking Center Stage: Weekday Theater

In a theater-crazy town like Chicago, stage exploits aren’t limited to the weekend. There are a lot of great shows (and great deals) to take advantage of before humpday even arrives. Every Monday, we’ll alert you to a few interesting early-in-the-week shows you may want to catch. If you want to see the whole list, just head here.

Mauritius

7:30 p.m. Tuesday-Thursday at Northlight Theatre; $25-$55

Stamp collecting has never been so dangerous…or so compelling.

Jaime’s Dance Studio

8 p.m. Tuesday at http://centerstagechicago.com/theatre/theatres/gorillatango.html; $10

This gimmick-driven improv/dance show could be the next “Impress These Apes.” Or it could be a total disaster. Either way, the hook – the troupe improvises comedy and dance in response to mp3s brought in by the audience – is worthy of attention.

Rod Blagojevich Superstar!

8:30 p.m. Tuesday-Wednesday at Second City ETC; $14

Power leads to corruption leads to comedy. The inevitable musical send-up of our felonious guv, handled with Broadway glitter and schmaltz by Second City, has critics rolling in the aisles.
