WASHINGTON–First Lady Michelle Obama made an unannounced visit to the Obama 2012 national headquarters during her Tuesday visit to Chicago.

Mrs. Obama arrived at the Prudential Building headquarters at 7:10 p.m and departed at 7:45, a campaign spokesman told me Wednesday. “She spoke for about 15 minutes and shook hands,” I was told.

At 9:22 p.m. the campaign sent out a message via Twitter: “The First Lady stopped by campaign HQ tonight on her way back to Washington to get us fired up. It worked. #Obama2012.”

Mrs. Obama traveled from a fund-raiser at Plumbers Hall on the near West Side to headquarters, on Randolph Street across from Grant Park. I’m told Mrs. Obama had dinner with some friends at Plumbers Hall before her fund-raiser.

Mrs. Obama’s team arranged for a print pool reporter to cover her fund-raising event. The Mrs. Obama team did not arrange for a pool reporter to at least note her arrival and departure from headquarters.
