Schedule for the Week of June 6, 2011

On Monday, the President will meet with his national security team for his monthly meeting on Afghanistan and Pakistan.

On Tuesday, the President and the First Lady will host Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany for an official visit at the White House. In the morning, the President will welcome Chancellor Merkel to the White House in a Official Arrival Ceremony. The President and Chancellor Merkel will also hold a bilateral meeting and a joint press conference. In the evening, the President and the First Lady will host an Official Dinner in honor of Chancellor Merkel. The Official Visit will celebrate the strong and enduring U.S.-German alliance and will provide an opportunity for the President and Chancellor to consult on a full agenda of foreign policy, security, and economic issues, including ongoing NATO operations in Libya and Afghanistan; democratic transitions in Egypt and Tunisia; Middle East peace; Iran nuclear compliance; and the global economic recovery.

On Wednesday, the President will hold an event in the DC area, highlighting the importance of training and preparing our workforce to compete for manufacturing jobs across the nation. Preparing Americans to enter into the manufacturing sector will not only strengthen the economy and get folks back to work, it’s critical to our nation’s success that we compete in a 21st century global economy. Additional details about the event are forthcoming. In the afternoon, the President will welcome Auburn University’s football team to the White House to honor the team’s 2010 BCS National Championship. This visit will also continue the tradition begun by President Obama of honoring sports teams for their efforts to give back to communities as well as for winning championships. As part of their visit to the White House, the Auburn Tigers will meet with local Washington, D.C. area students.

On Thursday, the President will welcome President Ali Bongo Ondimba of Gabon to the White House. The two Presidents will discuss strategic regional and bilateral topics of mutual importance, including the latest developments in the areas of security, democracy, governance, and economic growth.

Details about the President’s schedule on Friday will be released next week.
