There’s no better way to add levity to a historic same-sex marriage bill signing ceremony then to offer to actually walk down the aisle in a gay wedding.Illinois State Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka, who was particularly playful in her remarks at the UIC Forum on Wednesday, volunteered to do as much.

Topinka told the packed event on Wednesday that now that same-sex marriage was legal in Illinois, she was ready to be a flower girl “and I’ll even waive the fee!”

That set off some social media activity, including this:

“No takers yet,” spokesman Brad Hahn tells the Sun-Times on Thursday. “But of course the bill doesn’t go into effect until June 1.”

There’s still time.
