Rios deal completed with addition of Leury Garcia

The White Sox as expected completed Friday’s trade of Alex Rios to Texas by acquiring minor league infielder Leury Garcia, 22, a switch hitter.

Garcia will be assigned to Class AAA Charlotte after hitting .264 at Class AAA Round Rock for the Rangers. He had four homers, 19 RBI and 12 steals.

Garcia made the Rangers’ opening day roster and appeared in 25 games before being send back to Round Rock.

“He’s played every infield position except first and some center field,’’ general manager Rick Hahn said. “There’s a possibility he winds up in a super utility role.

“He has the defensive ability to be an everyday shortstop or second baseman. It’s going to come down to how much he hits ultimately to dictate his role.

“Speed may be his best tool,’’ he added.
