Illinois outdoors: Powerton Lake open

Powerton Lake reopened to fishing.

Just got the call from site super Stan Weimer that it is open right now for both bank fishermen and boaters. As soon as he got the word, he had the site reopened.

The cooling lake just outside of Pekin had been closed for months for various work along the shoreline, which was farther delayed by the record flooding along the Illinois River.

Weimer said it will be open from 6 a.m.-8 p.m. daily.

And yes, if you are wondering, that photo is from one winter when people needed to wear coats.

Don’t think coats will be needed for the next week.
