New Trier grad Beck Bennett rumored to be heading to 'SNL'

WIlmette native and New Trier grad Beck Bennett (shown in one of his hugely popular AT&T commercials) may be headed to “SNL” in the fall.

Deadline.com is reporting that New Trier graduate Beck Bennett is rumored to be among the finalists for a featured actors spot on “Saturday Night Live” this fall.

The website reports Bennett has been performing at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theater in Los Angeles. The website further is reporting that Chicago’s Mike O’Brien will likely to be promoted from writer to cast member.

Bennett, who is from north suburban Wilmette, currently stars as the deadpan interviewer of a group of children in a series of ads for AT&T.

Bennett snagged the attention of “SNL” from his series of “Fresh Perspective” videos on YouTube.

The New York Times features an article on its website today that takes a look at what it takes to get noticed by “the god of ‘SNL’ Lorne Michaels. The article features advice and do’s/don’ts received and imparted from those who made it to the big show and those who didn’t.
