Houses to be built on former Elmhurst hospital land

A Glendale Heights developer plans to build homes on the former Elmhurst Memorial Hospital property.

Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare said Thursday it has agreed to sell the 11 acres at 200 Berteau Road to Nitti Development LLC. The sale price wasn’t disclosed.

“It’s a bittersweet moment for us,” says Mary Lou Mastro, president and CEO, Elmhurst Memorial Healthcare. “We’re pleased to have found an outstanding and responsible developer for the property, but it also officially brings an end to a wonderful 88-year presence in the neighborhood.”

The hospital moved in 2011 to a new, $450 million building at 155 E. Brush Hill Road.

Elmhurst Memorial said it received multiple offers for the Berteau property in an open bidding process that was managed through broker CBRE.

“We’re looking forward to working with Mayor Steve Morley and city leaders to develop the Berteau property and build homes that reflect the rich history of Elmhurst’s neighborhoods,” Nitti Development president Joe Nitti said.
