Teenage boy shot in Back of the Yards

A teenage boy was shot while walking home Sunday night in the Backs of the Yards neighborhood on the South Side.

The 16-year-old was walking home with a friend in the 5000 block of South Marshfield Avenue about 11:40 p.m. when a male wearing a red hoodie walked up and opened fire, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.

The teen was shot in the leg and taken to Holy Cross Hospital in “stable” condition, Gaines said.

No one is in custody early Monday as Area Central detectives investigate.
