Groupon adds in-store coupons

Groupon Inc. has added in-store coupons to its Freebies category.

The Chicago company is launching its in-store coupon offerings with national retailers but expects to extend it to small businesses by the end of this year. Staples, Macy’s and PetSmart are among some bigger retailers already using Groupon to distribute in-store coupons.

Groupon created the Freebies category in late 2013 as an online-only category for digital coupons, promotion codes and samples.

The company got its start in 2008 as a daily-deals web site.
