KFC is reaching into its deep fryer and bringing back the Double Down sandwich.
Don’t remember it? It’s a sandwich without a bun because KFC puts cheese, bacon and special sauce between two fried chicken fillets.
KFC had to do something besides its prom-season chicken corsage. Chicken has been a popular topic lately as other restaurants rolled out new chicken sandwiches or chicken as pizza crust.
In many ways, the Double Down is the forerunner of the weird and quirky fast-food market that’s booming today. The high-calorie sandwich fits right in amongst other Yum Brands Franken-foods like Taco Bell’s Waffle Taco and KFC’s own chicken corsage. –Entrepreneur
USAToday reports the Double Down will return April 21 for a limited time with a social media compaign built around a nationwide “Double Down Dare.”
