Two University of Illinois at Chicago students were robbed at gunpoint Monday night near the West Side campus.

The students were walking in the 800 block of South Laflin about 11 p.m. when they were approached by three men, one of whom pulled a silver handgun and demanded the students’ property, according to an alert from UIC Police. The other two men searched the students and stole their belongings.

The man with the gun then ordered the students to lie on the ground and count to 30, and the three robbers ran south on Laflin, the alert said.

The students were not injured. UIC and Chicago Police canvassed the area, but did not find the suspects.

The armed suspect is described an 18-20-year-old black man, about 5-foot-7 and 130 pounds, wearing a red hooded sweatshirt and black pants, according to the alert.

The second suspect is described as a 19-20-year-old man, about 5-foot-9 and 160 pounds, wearing a baseball cap and a hooded sweatshirt with a “Cubs” logo on the back.

The third suspect is described as an 18-20-year-old black man, about 5-foot-10 and 160 pounds, wearing a green baseball cap and a black hooded sweatshirt.

Anyone with information should call UIC police at (312) 996-2830. Students are advised to travel in groups, use well-lit walkways and not wear headphones when walking alone.
