Lincoln Park Zoo’s baby klipspringer passes away

The Lincoln Park Zoo’s baby klipspringer passed away unexpectedly Wednesday.

A zookeeper found Asha unresponsive in her behind-the-scenes habitat and immediately rushed her to the veterinary hospital, where she was confirmed deceased, according to a statement from the zoo.

A full necropsy is being performed to determine the calf’s cause of death, according to the zoo.

“The zoo’s animal care staff is deeply saddened by this loss and asks the public to keep the zoo family in their thoughts during this difficult time,” according to the release.

Klipspringers — Afrikaans for “rock jumper” — are small antelope native to central and eastern Africa, according to the zoo.
