Man charged in connection with murder of mom shot, killed on South Side

A man is charged in connection with the murder of a mother of three who was shot and killed on Mother’s Day weekend on the South Side.

Johnny Reese, 23, is charged with two counts of murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm in connection with the murder of 37-year-old Summer Moore, according to Chicago Police.

Summer Moore, 37, was shot in the chest at 7:50 p.m. May 9 in the 11400 block of South Aberdeen, according to police. Family members said Moore was attending a party to celebrate a teenage relative’s prom send-off when gunshots rang out.

Moore, of the 3100 block of West Marquette Road, and taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where she was pronounced dead, authorities said.

Reese was the alleged driver of an SUV involved in the shooting, but is not the shooter, police said.

A police source said a second suspect is being questioned in connection with the murder.

Reese, of the 11400 block of South Union Avenue, is scheduled to appear in bond court Monday.
