Man shot dead in West Englewood

A man was shot to death early Monday in the West Englewood neighborhood on the South Side.

Officers responded to a call of shots fired in the 1500 block of West 72nd Street about 12:45 a.m. and found the man unresponsive on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head, police News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.

The unidentified man, thought to be in his 50s, was dead at the scene, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office.
