Police warn of taxi robberies in West Town

Police are warning cab companies and drivers of a man who has robbed two cabbies at gunpoint in the last month in the West Town neighborhood.

The suspect gets in a taxi, pulls out a handgun and asks for cash, according to a community alert from Area North detectives.

Both robberies happened in the 1300 block of North Cleaver Street, one at 8:50 p.m. June 21 and the other at 10:15 p.m. July 9.

Police describe the suspect as a black man between 19-25, 5-foot-5 to 5-foot-6, and 140-160 pounds.
