(GENEVA) State regulators have suspended the license of a west suburban doctor who allegedly engaged in sexual relationships with “several” patients of his practice.
Dr. Mark G. Lewis of Geneva admitted to engaging in sexual relationships with several ex-patients, including his ex-wife and current common law wife, according to documents filed by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
The IDFPR has suspended Lewis’s physician and surgeon, and controlled substance licenses, according to the department. He will be required to appear before a disciplinary board later this month.
In November 2012, one of Lewis’s patients contacted St. Charles police and reported that Lewis had sexually assaulted her at his home after a party, according to the document.
St. Charles police would say only that Lewis was the subject of an “ongoing investigation,” while the Kane County State’s Attorney’s office said no charges have been filed.
In June 2012, another of Lewis’s patients contacted Aurora police and complained that he was sending her “inappropriate” text messages of a sexual nature, according to the document.
Lewis also allegedly admitted having a sexual relationship with an ex-patient, whom he hired to work in his office while continuing to prescribe her medication, including Xanax.
Another patient admitted during an interview with an IDFPR investigator that she engaged in a relationship with the doctor while he continued to treat her, according to the document.
A call to Lewis’ office in Geneva on Wednesday was not answered.
