A man who was shot in the leg while standing at the bar inside a Chatham neighborhood nightclub in 2013 has filed a lawsuit against the club and its owners.

Timothy Turner filed the negligence lawsuit Friday in Cook County Circuit Court against Southway Lounge, where one man was killed and three others, including Turner, were wounded in a shooting on June 16, 2013.

About 12:10 a.m., a gunman walked up to the open door of the club in the 900 block of East 79th Street and fired shots, striking the four men, police said at the time.

Police said the men were involved in an argument outside the club prior to the attack.

Turner was standing at the bar at the time and was shot in the right calf, according to the lawsuit.

Todd Wood, 40, of the 8100 block of South St. Lawrence Avenue, was shot in the back and was taken to Advocate Trinity Hospital, where he was pronounced dead less than an hour later, authorities said.

Another 40-year-old man was shot in the chest and two other men, both 35 years old at the time, were shot in the leg, police said.

Southway Lounge did not provide adequate security for their patrons, the lawsuit alleges. It also claims the door of the club was propped open and there was not a bouncer at the entrance.

Turner is seeking at least $50,000 in damages.

The owners of Southway Lounge could not be immediately reached for comment on the lawsuit Friday afternoon.
