Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a northwest suburban man missing from the Island Lake area for almost a month.

Michael Babincsak, 59, of unincorporated McHenry, was reported missing by family May 29, according to a statement from the McHenry County sheriff’s office.

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday, investigators were utilizing a helicopter to search for him near Route 176 and Roberts Road, police said.

The Wauconda Fire Department also assisted in searching ponds with sonar equipment, police said.

Babincsak is described as a 6-feet-1, 270-pound white man with brown and grey hair, police said. He was last seen wearing a white tshirt and gray sweatpants.

Anyone with information on Babincsak’s whereabouts is asked to contact Detective Ed Maldonado at (815) 338-2144.
