A 58-year-old west suburban man died early Friday after falling from equipment Thursday at a Back of the Yards food distribution facility on the South Side.

Emergency crews were called about 4 a.m. Thursday to Testa Produce  at 4555 S. Racine Ave. for a report of an employee who had fallen, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office and the U.S. Department of Labor.

William White was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he died at 1:12 a.m. Friday, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. White lived in the 3500 block of South Elmwood Avenue in Berwyn.

An autopsy Saturday found White died of multiple injuries suffered in a fall from height, and his death was ruled an accident.

The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration has opened an investigation, spokesman Scott Allen said Monday.

Representatives for Testa did not respond to requests for comment.
