Michelle Flowers, 43, was a passenger on motorcycle about 5:40 p.m. on June 26 when a driver of a vehicle failed to yield while making a left turn into a strip mall, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

The driver struck Flowers and the 31-year-old man operating the motorcycle in the 1300 block of East 47th Street, authorities said.

Flowers, of the River West neighborhood, was critically injured and rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she died the next day at 4:23 p.m., the medical examiner’s office said. The 31-year-old suffered a fractured humerus, police said.

An autopsy released Monday found Flowers died of injuries from a vehicle striking a motorcycle, the medical examiner’s office said. Her death was ruled accidental.

The driver of the vehicle, a 46-year-old woman, was also treated at a hospital for injuries, according to police. She was given three tickets for making an illegal left turn, driving an uninsured vehicle and failing to carry a driver’s license.
