Pedestrian fatally struck by vehicle in Englewood

He was struck while crossing the street in the 6300 block of South Ashland Avenue.

A 61-year-old man was killed Monday after he was struck by a car in Englewood on the South Side.

Alan Mixan was crossing the street about 7:32 p.m. when a Honda northbound struck him in the 6300 block of South Ashland Avenue, Chicago police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office said.

Mixan was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he died about 30 minutes later, authorities said.

An autopsy released Tuesday found Mixan died of injuries from the crash, the medical examiner’s office said. He lived a few blocks away from where he was hit.

The driver of the Honda was issued citations, police said. The Major Accidents Unit is investigating.
