A 22-year-old man was killed in a crash Wednesday morning on Interstate 290 in west suburban Bellwood.
About 5:45 a.m. a semitrailer was parked on the right shoulder of I-290, west of 25th Avenue, when a 2010 gray Honda Civic crashed into the back of the semi, Illinois State Police said.
The man driving the Civic, Jeremiah Simmons, was pronounced dead at 6:10 a.m., according to state police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
An autopsy found he died of multiple injures from the crash and ruled his death an accident, the medical examiner’s office said. He lived in Cicero.
The driver of the semi was not injured in the collision, state police said.
The right shoulder and right lane of the expressway were closed for an investigation, state police said.
