Man killed in assault in West Elsdon

A man was beaten to death Thursday in West Elsdon on the Southwest Side, according to an autopsy.

The 49-year-old was found about 7:30 a.m. in the basement of an apartment in the 5300 block of South Kildare Avenue with lacerations to his head, Chicago police said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The man was identified as Jan Sindura, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy found he died of multiple injuries from an assault and ruled his death a homicide.

Detectives are conducting a death investigation, police said.
