A 56-year-old driver died after losing control of a vehicle early Thursday and driving off the side of an Interstate 80/94 ramp in northwest Indiana.

She was identified as Alicia M. Lewis of Gary by the Lake County coroner’s office.

About 1 a.m. a Mercury Mountaineer on the southbound ramp to Cline Avenue in Gary suddenly veered off the road, Indiana State Police said in a statement.

The driver was ejected as the car rolled down the embankment, state police said. The driver died at the scene. No one else was injured.

Shortly after 11 p.m., the university said police were on scene near 70 Arts Circle Drive investigating reports of an active threat. About 11:44, police issued an all clear, saying no one had been shot.
Police said the victims, including a 14-year-old boy, were inside a home in the 8000 block of South Vincennes Avenue in Chatham about 7:33 p.m. when two men entered and shot them.
Jashawn Forest, 20, was identified by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office, which ruled his death a homicide.
