Several people were arrested outside the scene of a shooting Tuesday in south suburban Chicago Heights.

Officers were called about 3:20 p.m. to a woman who was shot in the 600 block of Andover Street, according to Chicago Heights Police Chief Thomas Rogers.

A 26-year-old had been shot in her leg, Rogers said. She was taken to Franciscan Hospital for treatment.

Chicago Heights officers were at the scene of the shooting attempting to locate the shooter and witnesses when a large group of people gathered and “numerous altercations” broke out, Rogers said.

Officers called in back up from surrounding departments to assist with crowd control and safety, Rogers said. Several arrests were made and charges were pending.

Chicago Heights police are investigating the shooting.
