A west suburban man convicted of aggravated and domestic battery on Jan. 22 was sentenced to three years in prison Friday.

About 7 a.m. May 22, 2014, Robert M. Scholl was in a car with the victim and a toddler on the ramp from northbound Route 31 to eastbound I-90 in northwest suburban Elgin, according to the Kane County state’s attorney office.

Scholl, 42, of the 4N000 block of Locust Avenue in West Chicago, was driving when he started arguing with the victim, who was in the front passenger seat, a statement from prosecutors said.

He then stopped the car on the shoulder, got out and walked around the car to open the door. He struck the victim with his hands and tried to pull the victim out of the car, prosecutors said.

A witness saw the victim hanging out of the car screaming for help. The witness stopped, got out of the car and yelled at Scholl to stop. Scholl then got some belongings from the car and then ran away on foot, prosecutors said.

He was arrested June 1 on a warrant, the state’s attorney office said.

During the sentencing hearing, Associate Judge David Kliment made note of Scholl’s criminal history, which includes convictions for aggravated battery, multiple drug offenses, a weapon violation, burglary and driving without a license.

By law, he is eligible for day-to-day sentencing and receives credit for one day served in the Kane County Jail, the state’s attorney office said. He had been free on a $2,500 bond.
