Kentucky voters don't want dueling Rand Paul campaigns

Kentucky GOP Senator Rand Paul wants to be able to have presidential and Senate campaigns at the same time, but voters have different ideas.

A Bluegrass/SurveyUSA poll shows that two-thirds of Kentucky voters oppose changing the state law to allow Paul to have simultaneous campaigns. When broken down by party, 78 percent of Democrats oppose such a move, while Republicans are more willing to consider it, with only 54 percent opposing.

Back in March, Kentucky Senate Majority Leader Damon Thayer said Paul had asked him to put the wheels in motion to change the law that prohibits multiple campaigns from the same person. Doing so would leave open the possibility that Paul could retain his Senate seat if his presidential bid fizzles.

Of those polled, 24 percent said Paul should only run for Senate, while 22 percent want him to only run for president.
