Police: 4 killed, 17 wounded in Thursday shootings

Four people were killed and at least 17 more wounded in shootings across the city on Thursday, according to Chicago Police.

The latest homicide happened about 10:45 p.m. in the Austin neighborhood on the West Side, where officers responding to a call of a person shot in the 5000 block of West Concord found a 22-year-old man on a sidewalk with a gunshot wound to the head, according to Chicago Police. He was dead at the scene. A 34-year-old man who was standing on a corner nearby was shot in the right leg and taken to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where his condition was stabilized. Police said he wasn’t an intended target of the gang-related shooting.

About 6:20 p.m. in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, someone got out of an SUV in the 4800 block of South Laflin about 6:20 p.m. and shot a 19-year-old man in the head. He was dead at the scene, police said.

The day’s first killings happened shortly after midnight in the South Chicago neighborhood, where four people were shot in the 8000 block of South Shore Drive, leaving a 16-year-old boy and 20-year-old woman dead. Two more women, 30 and 42, were taken in critical condition to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. Police called the shooting a domestic incident.

The Cook County medical examiner’s office has not released the victims’ names.

The most recent nonfatal shooting happened about 11:30 p.m. in the South Shore neighborhood, where a 21-year-old man walking in the 7000 block of South Jeffery head shots and realized he’d been struck in the left leg. His condition was stabilized at Northwestern Memorial Hospital, police said.

Shortly after 11 p.m., a 24-year-old woman was riding in a vehicle going south on State near Garfield on the South Side when a gunman opened fire from the sidewalk, striking her multiple times in the leg, police said. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where her condition was stabilized, police said.

Two hours earlier, two men were sitting in a car in the East Garfield Park neighborhood’s 3800 block of West Jackson when a group of people outside opened fire about 9:15 p.m. One man, 19, was shot in the leg and arm, and the other, 31, suffered a gunshot wound to the leg and was grazed in the arm. They were taken to Stroger Hospital, where their conditions were stabilized, police said.

At 7:15 p.m., a 19-year-old man was standing in a Woodlawn gas station parking lot in the 6600 block of South Stony Island when he heard shots and realized he’d been hit in the hip, police said. His condition was stabilized at the University of Chicago Medical Center.

Fifteen minuted before that, a gunman walked up to two boys in the 1300 block of West 103rd Street in Washington Heights and opened fire, hitting a 16-year-old in the chest, abdomen and foot, and grazing the head of a 17-year-old. They were taken to Christ Medical Center, where the younger boy was in critical condition. The 17-year-old’s condition was stabilized, police said.

About 4:20 p.m., two people walked up to a 35-year-old man sitting in front of a home in the 7100 block of South Wolcott and shot him in the abdomen in the West Englewood neighborhood, police said. He was taken to Christ in good condition.

At 2:43 p.m., two men were shot in Lawndale. The 18- and 22-year-old were outside in the 3800 block of West Flournoy and someone opened fire, hitting the younger man in the leg. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital and his condition was stabilized, police said. The older man later showed up at Rush University Medical Center with a leg wound and was listed in good condition.

Thursday morning, a 23-year-old man standing in the 7000 block of North Greenwood in the North Side Rogers Park neighborhood was shot in the buttocks by someone in a passing vehicle about 10 a.m., police said. He was taken in good condition to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston.

Less than an hour earlier, an 18-year-old man was shot in the hand in the West Garfield Park neighborhood’s 3500 block of West Jackson at 9:20 a.m., police said. He was in good condition at Mount Sinai.

About 1:20 a.m., a 30-year-old man was shot in the leg by someone standing on a corner in the 7100 block of West Addison in the Northwest Side Dunning neighborhood, police said. His condition was stabilized at Community First Medical Center.

Thursday’s first shooting happened at 12:20 a.m. in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side. A 37-year-old man was walking south in the 6300 block of South Washtenaw when he was confronted by two gunmen who shot him in the arm and buttocks. His condition was stabilized at Christ Medical Center.

At least 15 people were shot in Chicago on Wednesday.
