The Bears on Tuesday gave themselves one more active, healthy quarterback, promoting David Fales to the 53-man roster one week after he had been sent down. To make room, the Bears waived cornerback Bryce Callahan.

Fales will serve as the backup quarterback to Jimmy Clausen, who, sources said, will start Sunday in Seattle.

The Bears also signed safety Demontre Hurst and wideout Deonte Thompson to the practice squad and terminated the deal of practice squadder Ify Umodu.

Jay Cutler, who strained his hamstring against the Cardinals, doesn’t figure to practice this week, though coach John Fox wouldn’t rule it out Monday. It’s assumed, though, that Fox is practicing gamesmanship with the Seahawks, trying to force the team to prepare for Cutler in addition to the Notre Dame alum.

Thompson played 14 games over three years wth the Ravens and Bills from 2012-14, catching 15 passes for 147 yards and returning 22 kicks for 590 yards.
