Before Guns N’ Roses tour, Axl Rose to go on the road with AC/DC

Axl Rose is having a busy season.

Rose, who reunited Saturday night with his Guns N’ Roses band mates onstage at Coachella in Southern California, is not just gearing up for the band’s upcoming Not in This Lifetime Tour, which comes to Soldier Field on July 1. He’s got a different gig lined up with another big act before that one even begins.

Rose has such an appetite for musical destruction that he’s first going to join AC/DC’s Rock or Bust World Tour when it resumes May 7 in Lisbon, Portugal. He’s going to fill in for vocalist Brian Johnson, who has stopped touring for health reasons.

The band announced in March that Johnson was advised by doctors to stop touring immediately or risk total hearing loss.

“As much as we want this tour to end as it started, we understand, respect and support Brian’s decision to stop touring and save his hearing,” AC/DC said in a press release. “We are dedicated to fulfilling the remainder of our touring commitments to everyone that has supported us over the years, and are fortunate that Axl Rose has kindly offered his support to help us fulfill this commitment.”

Perhaps not so coincidentally, AC/DC’s Angus Young appeared with Guns N’ Roses at Coachella on Saturday night, where Rose performed from a throne because of a foot injury.
