A west suburban man was sentenced Friday to 20 years in prison for sexually assaulting a young child he knew.

Between June 2010 and June 2014, Armando Romero-Gutierrez sexually assaulted and abused the victim, who was younger than 12 years old at the time, according to a statement from the Kane County state’s attorney office.

Romero-Gutierrez, 38, of the 100 block of South LaSalle Street, was convicted March 9 by a Kane County jury of two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault and 16 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, prosecutors said.

Romero-Gutierrez will receive credit for 632 days served in the Kane County Jail, where he had been held since his arrest in lieu of $750,00 bail, according to prosecutors.

In addition to Romero-Gutierrez’s prison time, he must register for life as a sexual offender.
