A downstate man was shot to death early Wednesday in the Marquette Park neighborhood on the Southwest Side.

Marshawn Hilson, 18, got out of a vehicle and approached a group of males at 2:03 a.m. in the 6300 block of South Talman, when someone in the group pulled out a gun and opened fire, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Hilson suffered three gunshot wounds to the chest and one to the left side of the head and was taken to Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 3:58 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 2900 block of West Krause Avenue in Peoria.

As of Thursday afternoon, no one was in custody in connection with the shooting. Area Central detectives are investigating.
