Person injured in second shooting on Eisenhower in 10 hours

A person was wounded in a shooting Friday morning on the Eisenhower Expressway, the second shooting on the West Side interstate in just about 10 hours.

Illinois State Police troopers were dispatched for reports of shots fired at 11:50 a.m. on westbound I-290 at Harlem, according to ISP. One person was wounded and was taken to a hospital, although details about the victim’s age, gender and condition were not immediately available.

All westbound lanes were closed at Harlem for the investigation, but they were reopened by 1:50 p.m., police said.

About 10 hours earlier, a man was shot while driving on the Eisenhower in West Garfield Park, according to ISP.

He showed up at Stroger Hospital about 1:30 a.m. with a gunshot wound to the leg and told investigators the shooting happened on the Kostner exit ramp from westbound I-290, according to ISP. His injury wasn’t thought to be life-threatening.

Troopers canvassed the exit for shell casings but weren’t able to find evidence.

The shootings are at least the 42nd and 43rd on Chicago expressways so far this year, according to Sun-Times data. There were 39 such shootings in 2015.
