Police investigate three Northwest Side arsons

Police are investigating three fires set Thursday morning in the Belmont Cragin neighborhood on the Northwest Side.

The first blaze was reported about 3:10 a.m. in the 4900 block of West Wellington, according to Chicago Police. Firefighters and officers responded to a blaze that began in a trash can before spreading to a garage, police said. The garage sustained damage to its exterior before it was extinguished.

About 10 minutes later, authorities responded to another blaze in the 3100 block of North Lamon. The blaze also started in a trash can before spreading to a garage and a multi-unit residential building, police said. Eight people were displaced by the fire.

Nearly two hours later, authorities responded to another blaze at 5:10 a.m. in the 4900 block of West Melrose, police said. The fire also started in a trash can and spread to an adjacent garage.

No injuries were reported.

Investigators are looking into the possibility that all three fires are connected. The Chicago Police Bomb and Arson Unit is investigating.
