Miguel Montero made this play on the Cardinals’ Matt Holliday a few days before a sore back put him on the DL.

Catcher Miguel Montero (back) started a minor-league rehab assignment with Class AAA Iowa on Tuesday, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout and catching six innings.

“He hasn’t been too far removed that he should be far off,” said Maddon, who didn’t have a projected timeline for Montero’s return from the disabled list. “Could be relatively quick. Could take a little more time. It’s just how his back feels, and he needs to play to find that out.”

Montero hasn’t played since April 24 in Cincinnati.

Notes: The Cubs and Padres are each allowed to add a 26th man to the roster for Wednesday’s doubleheader. The Cubs plan to add a reliever from Iowa. … Anthony Rizzo’s batting average jumped nine points to .279 before he ever saw a pitch Tuesday, after major league baseball overturned a scoring decision from last week in Pittsburgh. Rizzo’s line drive off a sliding Andrew McCutchen’s glove in Wednesday’s game was originally ruled an error. The scoring change gave him four hits for that game.
