Montero (back) catches 6 innings for AAA Iowa in first rehab game

Catcher Miguel Montero (back) started a minor-league rehab assignment with Class AAA Iowa on Tuesday, going 0-for-3 with a strikeout and catching six innings.

“He hasn’t been too far removed that he should be far off,” said Maddon, who didn’t have a projected timeline for Montero’s return from the disabled list. “Could be relatively quick. Could take a little more time. It’s just how his back feels, and he needs to play to find that out.”

Montero hasn’t played since April 24 in Cincinnati.

Rizzo’s line drive off a sliding Andrew McCutchen’s glove in Wednesday’s game was originally ruled an error. The scoring change gave him four hits for that game.
