There’s another changing of the guard at the long-running late-night ABC newsmagazine show, “Nightline.” The network’s chief national correspondent Byron Pitts will replace Dan Abrams as one of the three co-anchors on the program. Abrams will continue as ABC’s chief legal analyst, but a memo issued Thursday by ABC News president James Goldston said Abrams intends to return full-time to his Abrams Media Network digital business. In short, it’s clear the network pushed Abrams before he could jump.
In his memo, Goldston praised Pitts and wrote, “Byron is a truly passionate storyteller and deep thinker about the critical issues of our time, as his work from Soweto to Ferguson makes clear.”
Abrams had co-anchored “Nightline” with Dan Harris and Juju Chang since June 2013. He joined ABC News as chief legal analyst in 2011, after a long run at MSNBC.
His Abrams Media Network is a collection of websites covering various tech and lifestyle topics, including Mediaite, Geekosystem, Styleite and Jane Dough.
