The Woodstock boys basketball team jumped ahead after tip-off, built a double-digit lead and cruised to a 58-31 win over North Boone in the first round of the E.C. Nichols Holiday Classic at Marengo on Saturday.

The host Indians led by 25 points at the end of the first quarter, and similarly had little difficulty defeating Stillman Valley by a final score of 52-30. Both games finished with a running clock.

“A lot of times, we get off to a quick start this year, and then we kind of let off,” Marengo coach Nate Wright said. “I really think we kept the pedal to the medal.”
