1. Lucas Ege is on a mission. The Burlington Central junior, coming off a runner-up performance at Top Times in the 60-meter hurdles to conclude the indoor boys track and field season, was unstoppable Saturday in Batavia. Ege won titles in the 110 high hurdles and 300 intermediate variety by more than a second-plus in each event at the Les Hodge Invitational. The Rockets’ leader is a leading contender for a Class 2A state championship in the 300 hurdles.

2. Double dash winner. Among the multiple-event champions at Batavia, few doubles were as impressive as St. Charles North’s Jack Feeney sweeping the 200 and 400 dashes in 23.63 and 52.8 seconds, respectively. Erik Miller, the North Stars’ reigning All-State high jumper, not only claimed his specialty event but also led the field in the long jump with his effort of 21 feet even. Steve Lewandowski claimed the North Stars’ other championship by winning the open 1,600 in 4:46.65.

3. Sprinting ahead. In a solid sprinters’ field Saturday at Niles West, Huntley junior Connor Boos acquitted himself in admirable fashion. Boos was third at 100 meters with a time of 11.47 seconds and also came home with a quality wind-aided time of 21.9 seconds in the open 200.
