THE SKINNY
In a neighborhood SCC Blue matchup, Aurora Christian (4-4, 1-1) was too long and strong for Aurora Central (0-7, 0-3). Except for three-pointers by Jonathan Harrell (three) and RD Lutze (one), the Eagles scored on layups, putbacks and shots from the lane for three quarters, led by 6-5 Zach Singer (game high 21 points).
TURNING POINT
With ACC still hanging close at 50-38 near the end of the third, Harrell (15 points) dished a great assist on a Pat McNamara layup. Harrell then slammed a dunk off the fast-break on a turnover, and Steve Buhrt ended the quarter with a rebound layup that gave the Eagles a 57-38 lead.
THE STAR
Singer, who worked low for scores on offensive rebounds and to get open in ACC’s zone defense. McNamara and Harrell were consistent in finding him.
BY THE NUMBERS
In the third quarter, the Eagles scored 10 field goals: eight layups (three on offensive boards), and two shots from the lane. They also outrebounded the Chargers 13-5 in the period.
QUOTABLE
“Coach (Pat McNamara) said at halftime that the first three minutes of the third quarter are the most important. I feel that we came out ready to play just like it was a brand new game, got the loose balls, and just busted our butts.” —Singer
