THE SKINNY: Hampshire held on for a 35-34 victory over DeKalb (1-1) Friday night in Hampshire. The Whip-Purs got off to a quick start scoring on their first two possessions and outgaining the Barbs 147 to 1 in the first quarter.

TURNING POINT:After DeKalb got to within two points late in the third quarter, Hampshire (2-0) answered with a 15-play, 75-yard drive that took 7:32 off the clock. Quarterback Nick Mohlman capped the drive off with a 13-yard touchdown pass to Tim Jansen.

THE STAR:Hampshire senior running back Nick Kielbasa rushed for 177 yards on 32 carries and scored two touchdowns .

BY THE NUMBERS: Nick Mohlman was 10-of-11 for 153 yards and two touchdowns. Jansen finished with five catches for 102 yards and two touchdowns.

QUOTABLE: “This was a great victory for our team against a good DeKalb team”, said Jansen. “That drive late in the third quarter was huge for us. I have such a good relationship on the field with Nick (Mohlman). He just gives me a look and I know where to go to get the ball.”
