“Skinny Jeans Bandit” a hipster felon, FBI says

He sports fashionable “shawl-collar” sweaters and big, black-framed glasses.

And he accessorizes his preppy pea coat with a chunky, knit scarf and slim-fit shirts.

But if he looks like he just stepped out of a J. Crew ad, he’s actually something far more dangerous, the FBI says.

He’s the “Skinny Jeans Bandit” and he’s already struck at five banks in Illinois and Indiana.

The feds say the stylish 20-something is always “well dressed in ‘preppy’ clothing to include ‘skinny’ jeans,” and that he sports a “thin mustache” — just like the cool kids in Logan Square.

The Skinny Jeans Bandit hasn’t yet struck in Chicago, and authorities won’t say how much he has made off with, though they say on at least one occasion he used a handgun.

He robbed a BMO Harris Bank in west suburban Carol Stream in November, a Fifth Third Bank in northwest suburban Cary and Chase Bank branches in Valparaiso and north suburban Grayslake in December, and struck most recently on Wednesday at a BMO Harris branch in Crown Point, Ind., they say.

The FBI wants anyone with information about the dashing, 5-foot-9 to 6-foot robber, who is described as Hispanic or light-skinned black, to call (312) 421-6700.
