1. Marshall coach Dorothy Gaters will owe Brooks coach Reggie Dawson dinner at the end of the season. Twice this season, Marshall has had to pull out of commitments to play in shootouts, and both times Brooks filled in, first at the City/Suburban Shootout hosted by Kenwood, and most recently last Saturday at the Kaneland Shootout where the Commandos were scheduled to play Marian Catholic. Ironically, Marshall had to pull out of the Kaneland Shootout when it reached the Public League tournament semifinals after eliminating Brooks in the second round.

2. Morton’s 6-1 junior Maryam Wilcher, who began her career at Trinity, recently made a verbal commitment to play collegiately at Indiana State. Wilcher averages 21.3 points and more than seven rebounds and last week she scored a career-high 30 points against Hinsdale South. “Maryam is a multidimensional player who is equally effective facing or with her back to the basket,” Chicago Hoops Express’s Jerald Davis said. “She has a long wingspan, which can make her a defensive nightmare for many opponents.”

3. Fremd’s Haley Gorecki recently surpassed the 2,000-point career mark when she scored 15 points in a rout of Hoffman Estates. However, even with 2,005 points, she won’t catch the school’s all-time record-holder, 2001 graduate Maggie Fontana, who scored 2,528 points. Oak Lawn’s Brianna Markusic became her school’s all-time scoring leader with 22 points against Shepard, giving her 1,251 for her career, and Bloom’s Danielle King should crack the 1,800-point mark when the Blazers host Kankakee on Thursday.
