Boy, 14, shot in Avalon Park

A 14-year-old boy was shot Sunday night in the Avalon Park neighborhood.

The boy was shot about 7:30 p.m. in the 7900 block of South Dante, police said. The teen was walking when a male exited a vehicle and opened fire, striking the boy in the leg, police said.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition stabilized, police said.

Police said the boy is a documented gang member.
