“Daily Show” host Jon Stewart is sorry he gave Mitt Romney so much grief in the last presidential election cycle. And Romney can thank Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, for Stewart’s remorse.

Stewart tore into Cruz for how his campaign announcement was staged Monday at Liberty University, where students were required to attend. He especially took issue with the rehearsal beforehand, where Cruz and his family practiced waving and kissing.

“I may owe Mitt Romney an apology,” Stewart said. “Even the Mitt Romneytron 3000 didn’t have to rehearse waving and kissing.”

It looked like the practice maybe didn’t pay off.

Stewart even offered up a live demo during his show.

“Let me clarify this a little bit: Students at Liberty University were required to attend a partisan political speech where a small-government conservative who had just promised he would respect privacy rights, told them if they cared about freedom, text your information to a mysterious address that collects your cell phone number for undisclosed purposes,” Stewart said.
