Two suspects are in custody in connection with break-in at a senior housing complex undergoing construction in southwest suburban Mokena.

The break-ins happened between 6 p.m. Sunday and 3 a.m. Monday at the Clarendale of Mokena at 21536 S. Wolf Rd., according to Mokena police. The facility is currently under construction and is expected to open in the fall.

It is not yet clear if anything was taken from the construction site, Mokena Police Chief Steven Vaccaro said.

About 4:45 a.m. Tuesday, a police officer saw a parked vehicle that didn’t belong in the facility’s loading area, Vaccaro said.

As other officers arrived, one person came out of the front of the building and indicated there was a second person inside, Vaccaro said.

Several other police agencies responded and helped Mokena police search the facility, which Vaccaro said is “very large.”

Later Tuesday morning, a second suspect was taken into custody, he said.

No charges had been filed as of noon and the incident remains under investigation.
