Motorcyclist hurt in near-collision with squad car in Lincoln Park

A motorcyclist was hurt when he slammed on his brakes to avoid a crash with a Chicago Police squad car early Monday in the North Side Lincoln Park neighborhood.

An officer was responding to a call and heading southbound in a squad car on Halsted with his lights and siren on when he stopped at North Avenue before proceeding through the intersection about 4:45 a.m., police said.

A motorcyclist heading westbound on North Avenue saw the squad car, slammed on his brakes and dropped his bike, police said.

The officer in the squad car saw the motorcyclist fall and stayed at the scene, police said.

The motorcyclist, whose age was not immediately available, was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital with injuries that are not thought to be life-threatening, police said. His condition was stabilized.
